Often, when it comes to the environmental crisis, one makes the mistake of immediately attributing the blame only to human negligence, tending to generalise and lump everything together. Yet, with constant efforts, certain organizations undertake to repair what seems irreparable (and it would be if these efforts were not made). Do you want an example? We can talk about Paris agreement..

The agreement entered into force on 4 November 2016 after being adopted at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference and formally ratified by the EU on 5 October 2016.

Its main purpose is to reinforce the response to the threat of climate change, keeping the temperature rise in this century well below +2°C compared to pre-industrial levels, with the intention of not exceeding +1,5°C.

Governments have agreed to provide developing countries with ongoing support and to raise awareness among different populations about the impacts of climate change.

The Agreement involves all members states of the United Nations Framewor Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) on reducing greenhouse gas emissions..

The EU has been instrumental in brokering the agreement with the major powers and continues to play a leading role in this global battle.

The EU’s contribution for each of its individual nations is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. All major regulations for the implementation of this plan have been adopted by the end of 2018.

All countries undertake to present and comment every five years internationally on a national emission reduction target; in addition, the more advanced countries undertake to support developing countries in adopting their emission reduction measures; from 2020, the countries of old industrialisarion will provide EUR 100 billion a year to spread green technologies and continue the decarbonisation of the economt; finally, a repayment mechanism was concluded to cover the financial losses of the countries most vulnerable to climate change.

So, we can already see that green technologies (to a large extent developing) will play a fundamental role in a less distant world and it won’t be long before they become the international standard.

And what do you think about it?
